Surprise! There’s a fourth girl, and her name is Nel Slate, the Iron Convoy!
She “resides” on the planet Axis, which is actually a gas giant that has been slowly forming landmasses over the last century. The estimated final size of Axis’ landmass is noted to be the largest in its system, which until now has consisted of nothing but gas giants. The solar system that Axis resides in is strategically situated between the most populated systems, with easy access to planets of interest such as Newton-3, Fahrenheit, and Chartreuse. This would make Axis the perfect waypoint between systems, and a possible central hub for space travel. As a result, construction firms raced to secure property on the still-forming planet. In the end, three corporations purchased exactly one-third of the planet each; the Valhalla Corporation, which began settlement on Newton-3, the Tartarus Corporation, which began the mining operation on Fahrenheit, and the Nirvana Corporation, which deployed their science vessels to Chartreuse. Although the planet is near completion, none of the three companies want to compromise their land, and have thus taken measures to maintain three separate landmasses; Axis Alpha, owned by Valhalla, Axis Beta, owned by Tartarus, and Axis Gamma, owned by Nirvana.
Over the decades, the three sectors of Axis have diverged in development. The technology used by each corporation to develop their landmass has altered each sector with its own unique geography, climate, and atmosphere. The resulting atmospheric divergence causes the three segments of the planet to maintain a dangerous and random rotation around its gravity center. Areas where two different atmospheres meet are especially dangerous, creating chaotic weather conditions that threaten their respective segments’ climate, as well as destroy any vessel flying in that space.
While the settlers of Axis have faced no odd evolutions like the humans of Newton-3, Fahrenheit, and Chartreuse, a small subset of humans who roam between the three sectors of Axis have developed a peculiar respiratory system that allows their body to adapt to nearly any atmospheric chemical makeup. These wanderers are called the Axis Caravan, and they are the only pilots resilient and skilled enough to survive crossing atmospheres, as well as navigate the maelstrom of atmospheric storms that shake the skies between sectors. Although they are able to filter air naturally through their physiology, members of the Axis Caravan are never seen without a mask to aid their breathing.
Nel is one such member of the Caravan. Quiet, cool, and mysterious, Nel is a pilot of the highest caliber, able to navigate even heavy freighters through vicious storms, molten caverns, and gravity centers, earning her the nickname ‘Iron Convoy’. She keeps mostly to herself, acting in a concise and professional manner whenever on duty. As she travels between a tri-segmented planet with a random rotation, she has no sense of day or night, but chooses to remain on duty more often and at longer lengths than any other member of the Caravan. However, frequent work results in extended use of her breathing mask, and as such, she has developed a dependency on it. When the mask is removed, she loses her cool demeanor and instead becomes awkward, bashful, and unassertive. Not only that, but her body is conditioned to recognize the mask’s breathing filter as its ideal breathing condition. Without the mask, any atmosphere, even perfectly stable ones, trigger a response from her body; a sudden expansion of the breasts, which adds more body mass to extend her respiratory system and allow her body more time to filter her breath intake. The size of the expansion is usually determined by the severity of the air conditions, or whether or not Nel’s breathing has been compromised in any way.
Also, Nel is available for questioning! Feel free to send her any Asks you might have!
Come to think of it, I remember something from Fern's profile, about and how her homeplanet has dangerous plants that create giant clouds of pollen which have severe effects on the human respiratory system... I suppose Nel should stay away from Chartreuse, then. ^_^;;
